January 3, 2009

Did the last few weeks of 2008 fly by as quickly for your family as it did for ours? Now that the shopping, concerts, traveling and parties are over, the beginning of the new year promises to be as busy as ever for Alderman household.

The Maryland General Assembly will go into session on Wednesday, January 14, and I’ll have the honor of meeting many new friends—legislators, staff, lobbyists, journalists and others in the capitol community. Please pray with us for favor with those we meet and for many strong, lasting relationships to begin in the next few days. These are exciting times.

We will be learning from the Book of Colossians in our legislative Bible study this year. I will be delivering the study notes to each legislator’s office each week, as well as sending them out by email with the invitation to attend the study. These notes will also be posted on the Capitol Ministries’ website, so you will be able to follow along if you like.

For those of you who live near us, you can tune into WCRH (90.5 FM) this Monday, January 5, for an interview I’ll be doing with Jeff Bean, the Broadcasting Services Director. I’ll be in the studio at 2:00 p.m. and always look forward to visiting with the great people at Cedar Ridge. I really appreciate their heart for our area and for helping us get the word out about our ministry as this year’s session begins.

I also have an updated Leadership Prayer Calendar for you which reflects the changes from the election last year. I hope it will be a helpful reminder to you to pray consistently for the leaders of Maryland, not only for their law-making decisions, but for their personal and spiritual lives, too. We know this is good and pleases the Father (I Tim. 2:1-4). Click here for your printable calendar.

God bless you for keeping us in your prayers. The Lord is encouraging us and we long to see Him glorified in this ministry. The next few weeks will be crucial for our long-term success, so thank you in advance for thinking of us.

Brent Alderman
